Helpful Information

Open Enrollment FAQ

Find answers to frequently asked questions about tuition, financial assistance, waitlists, sibling priority, and kindergarten eligibility.

Does Great Hearts Texas charge tuition?

No. Great Hearts Texas academies are tuition-free public charter schools. The state provides the majority of our public funding based on student enrollment and attendance.

Is financial assistance available for school-related costs?

Yes. Assistance is available for qualifying families and may include free or reduced-price meals, help with uniforms, and support for after-school or athletic programs. Please contact your academy for additional information.

If my child is on the waitlist, when will we receive an enrollment offer?

The timing of enrollment offers is difficult to predict and varies by academy and grade level. Registrars make offers as seats become available through student withdrawals or changes in enrollment. Seats often become available before the start of school, but we cannot guarantee when or how many openings will occur.

Can my child’s waitlist number change?

Yes. Waitlists are organized according to application type and applicable enrollment priorities. A student’s position may change as seats are offered, families accept or decline offers, applications are updated, or priority statuses are applied.

What happens if my child does not receive an offer on Lottery Day?

Your child will remain on the waitlist for the 2027–2028 school year and may receive an offer if a seat becomes available. If your child does not receive an offer during that school year, you must submit a new application during Open Enrollment for 2028–2029. Waitlist positions do not carry forward from one school year to the next.

Does an enrolled student’s sibling automatically receive an offer?

No. Siblings of fully enrolled students receive priority on the waitlist, but an enrollment offer is not guaranteed. Offers remain dependent on seat availability in the sibling’s grade.

Does Great Hearts Texas accept early kindergarten students?

No. In accordance with state eligibility requirements, a child must be five years old on or before September 1 of the year the child enters kindergarten. Great Hearts Texas does not make exceptions or offer early-entrance testing for kindergarten.
